Grown up Girlfriends

So…I joined a small group at my church.  This is the first small group I have ever been apart of and can’t wait to dive in.  I am super excited about it for the chance to meet some new “girl” friends but mostly, I hope it will push and motivate me to get more serious about my walk with God.  The book we are reading is called “Having A Mary Spirit.”

This is the second book, which follows “Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World.”  I have this book also, but I guess I will read it second :) .  I have only read 1 chapter in this book and can clearly see why God has lead me to this particular group.  My family and I are forever busy, and I always wonder why I have no time to spend with God.  I barely have time to sleep!!  My flesh tries so hard to do the right thing, but this is obviously a big fat sin!!!  I am excited to see what this book can teach me about how to slow down and make time to spend with God.  It is truly the only way to find peace in life.  What is super cool about this book is that there is a 14 week study guide in the back.  I suppose if you are a quick reader you could just do it daily, but for the purpose of our small group, we will use it weekly.

The great thing about small groups is that they are more than just a ”Bible” study.  It is a chance to have other women to talk to about things that men sometimes clearly don’t understand…or just have no interest in.  It is about building lifetime friendships, having good friends to bounce crazy ideas off of and an amazing opportunity to learn something new about yourself. Also, it is a great chance to have some grown up time without the kids hugging at your ankles for a few hours. :)

I’ll try to give updates about how it goes.

  • That’s so exciting! I was just telling someone yesterday the importance of having friends in your life that are going through the same thing you’re going through. I guess it’s not necessary for survival, but is definitely a tremendous blessing. Have fun!
